AG Xavier Becerra has announced 14 members of his executive team that will be working in his Los Angeles, Sacramento and Washington DC offices:

  • Sean McCluskie, chief deputy attorney general — Becerra’s “second in command” and his former chief of staff in Congress.
  • Amanda Renteria, chief of the Division of Operations — advisor on “departmental budget, human resources, including labor relations issues, business services, contracts and procurement;” most recently “served as the National Policy Director for Secretary Hillary Clinton.”
  • Laura Stuber, senior special assistant attorney general — “senior legal and policy advisor;” former “senior counsel to the US Dept. of Health and Human Services and the US Senate Permanent Subcommittee on Investigations.”
  • Eleanor Blume, special assistant attorney general — “legal and policy advisor on consumer protection, financial markets and state and local partnerships;” former director at Dept. of Defense overseeing regulations for protecting “military families from abusive lending.”
  • Jonathan “Jon” Blazer, special assistant attorney general — “legal and policy advisor on immigration;” former “counsel for immigrants’ rights at the American Civil Liberties Foundation.”
  • Melanie Fontes Rainer, special assistant attorney general — “legal and policy advisor on health care;” former senior counsel to US Senate Committee on Health, Education, Labor and Pensions.
  • Kelli Evans, special assistant attorney general — “legal and policy advisor on criminal justice reform;” former senior director  for the State Bar of California.
  • David Zonana, special assistant attorney general — “legal and policy advisor on environmental law;” 14 years of “DOJ experience,” currently supervising deputy attorney general and is leading team defending Air Resources Board cap-and-trade regulation.
  • Alejandro Perez, special assistant to attorney general, Office of Federal Affairs — “director of federal affairs;” responsible “for monitoring federal policy priorities and reporting developments to policy staff.”
  • Sirat Attapit, director, Office of Legislative Affairs — “high-level policy advisor in the development and advocacy of legislation;” “12 years working in the US House of Representatives, US Senate, and think tank overseeing a wide range of portfolio issues.”
  • Bethany Lesser, communications director — “advisor on all policy matters related to the media and serve as the chief spokesperson for the department;” former “presidential appointee in the Overseas Private Investment Corporation” and before that communications director for US Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand.
  • Chris Moyer, deputy communications director — former senior director of public affairs for American Gaming Assn.
  • Patricia Moscoso, executive speechwriter — former director of speech writing for US Labor Secty. Thomas E. Perez.
  • Liz Saldivar, director of external affairs — “coordinate and direct the department’s Southern California liaison program, representing the office in meetings with public officials;” former director of Becerra’s Los Angeles congressional district office.
