The California State Library has announced creating a “Tribute to Dr. Kevin Starr” page on Facebook in honor of the former California State Librarian who died Saturday at the age of 76 from a heart attack. The Library invites friends and former colleagues to add pictures of Starr or share their stories of him on the page. Starr was the City Librarian of San Francisco before being named California State Librarian, a position he held from 1994-2004, after which then-Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger named him State Librarian Emeritus. On the Facebook page Schwarzenegger writes, “Kevin Starr spent his career breathing life into the history of California.” Starr was also a professor at the University of Southern California. His books included a series on California history collectively called “Americans and the California Dream.” His memorial Mass of the Resurrection will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, Jan. 27, at St. Ignatius Church, 650 Parker Ave., San Francisco.
