California Highway Patrol has announced that its Mounted Patrol Unit, which patrols around the Capitol, will march in the 2017 Pasadena Tournament of Roses parade on Monday. The CHP’s equestrian unit was one of 25 teams selected to participate in this year’s parade. “The CHP is honored and excited to be a part of an event many of us grew up watching every New Year,” said CHP Commissioner Joe Farrow. “The parade, much like the CHP, has a very rich history full of tradition and pride.” This year marked the 87th anniversary of the CHP and the 30th anniversary of the Department’s Mounted Patrol Unit. The team consists of six horses and six riders (pictured left), they are: Officer Kevin Hickman riding with PJ, Officer Joseph Davis riding on Oliver, Officer Joshua Cavolt riding on Sampson, Sgt. Kassandra DiMaggio riding with Bones, Officer Richard Anglesey riding on Dario, and Officer Wesley Fish on Wyatt. The CHP Officers and the Sergeant, along with their horses, departed yesterday from Sacramento to Southern California to be a part of the more than 100-year-old tradition, which includes floats, marching bands, and equestrian units from across the country.
