Civil Justice Assn. of California (CJAC) reports John Doherty has departed as president to open his own law firm, Doherty Law Group. Doherty joined CJAC in 2016. He was previously vice president of state policy and politics and general counsel for TechNet, as well as vice president of state government affairs at UnitedHealth Group and chief of staff to former Asm. Alberto Torrico. His firm is based in Sacramento. While CJAC conducts its search for a new president, lobbyist Kim Stone of Stone Advocacy will fill that role on a part-time basis. Stone, who was president of CJAC from 2011 to 2016, will continue as a contract lobbyist for CJAC. Also representing CJAC are Mike Belote of California Advocates and Cassie Gilson of Axiom Advisors.
