Large rolls of green turf are ready to be unfurled at 630 K Street next to the Golden 1 Center that will soon open as Flatstick Pub, a locally-owned and family-operated bar. A neon sign was recently installed above the entryway at DOCO and co-owner Jenny Robinson expects to open by early October. The 12,000-sq.-ft. basement of the two-story space will feature an indoor mini golf course (nine holes to start, with plans to expand to 18 holes), along with a walk-up eatery called the Neon Taco which will serve street tacos and other small bites. A full bar will offer cocktails, wine and more than 40 local brews on tap. Robinson says their slogan, “Drink Local, Putt Tipsy,” is an ode to their mission to only pour beers made in Northern California. The facility is 21+ and guests are encouraged to sip on a drink while they putt. “At every hole there is a place to set down your drink,” she said. “You’re meant to be drinking while you’re playing, it’s active drinking.” There will be other games too, like cornhole, Jenga and “Duffleboard,” which Robinson says is a combination of golf and shuffleboard. “It’s a one-handed game; it’s meant to be played with a beer in your hand,” she said. Robinson and her husband, Brandon, discovered a bar of the same name up in Seattle and were inspired to open one in Sacramento. “We just knew that Sacramento needed something like this,” she said. “This is not your typical kids mini golf. This is an elevated adult mini golf where you putt through kegs.” Robinson says they will also have several private rooms available for large party rentals and corporate events. The top floor will have its own separate concept: a membership-based speakeasy called the Trophy Club with a “Hollywood country club in the 1920s” vibe. They’re pre-selling lifetime memberships of $399 with benefits including unlimited mini golf and priority tee time reservations. Flatstick will be open seven days a week with tentative hours of noon to 2 a.m. Robinson says they also plan to donate $1 from every beer sold on Sundays to a local charity each quarter. “We’re diehard Sacramentans who love our community,” Robinson said. “All that we care about is making sure that this is a cool place to live and work and be.” Contact: Robinson, jennifer@tipsyputt.com.
