KEEPING UP

10/27/2016

Jerome “Jerry” McGuire, a consultant with the Senate Public Safety Committee, plans to retire at the end of December after working for the Legislature for 19 years. To celebrate his upcoming retirement, McGuire invites his Capitol colleagues to join him and his band, the Midtown Creepers, for a night of music and dancing tomorrow from 5:30 to 8 p.m. at the Torch Club (915 15th Street). After years of running his own law office in Sacramento, McGuire started working at the Capitol with the Assembly Public Safety Committee in 1997. He then joined the Senate Public Safety Committee in 1999 and has been there ever since. When he leaves, McGuire says he’ll miss the camaraderie between colleagues. “The best thing about working at the Capitol is you always run into somebody for pleasant conversation,” he said. During his retirement, he plans to volunteer with local hospice care facilities, take a trip to Ireland with his daughter who is turning 16 later this year, and care for his puppy, a golden retriever/poodle mix named Beanie (because of its resemblance to a Beanie Baby stuffed animal). McGuire says he’ll also continue to play with his band, which has been playing “danceable blues” music together for nearly 25 years. “I won’t have a hard time finding things to do,” he said.
