Tomasa Dueñas, chief of staff for Asm. Bill Quirk, has announced the birth of her son, Julián Dueñas Chávez. He was born December 15, two weeks earlier than his expected due date. “Julián was eager to meet his parents and spend Christmas with us,” Dueñas said. She says she went into labor on her last day of work before she was planning on going on maternity leave and that baby Julián arrived early the next morning. “I commute into work from Napa via Amtrak, and every day during my last week of work before going on maternity leave, I would talk to the baby and tell him how many days of work I had left so that he would stay put,” Dueñas said. “I didn’t want to be that passenger that went into labor on the train.” When Julián was born, he weighed less than six pounds, which was smaller than Dueñas expected. “I was surprised at how small he was at birth and joke that because I ran a half marathon 5 months pregnant I didn’t give him a chance to plump up,” she said. This is the first child for Dueñas and her husband, Jesús Felipe Chávez. “We are all healthy and completely in love with this little angel,” Dueñas said. Contact: Tomasa.Duenas@asm.ca.gov.
